Application Process

Applications for the scholarship awards were mailed in late August 1998 to Greek Advisors via the Association of Fraternity Advisors mailing directory as of mid-August 1998 (including regular members and graduate members) and were mailed to Order of Omega Chapters Advisors via the National Order of Omega mailing as of mid-August 1998 (including active chapters and inactive chapters).

A total of one-hundred-nine (109) scholarship applications were received by the October 30, 1998 postmarked deadline and reviewed by the 1998 Scholarship Committee.

The Scholarship Committee was composed of student affairs staff and graduate students in the higher education program (student affairs area of study) at Texas Tech University including:

The Scholarship Committee reviewed the Scholarship application criteria during a breakfast meeting on Monday, September 9, 1998; reviewed 109 applications from November 16, 1998 through November 30, 1998; and finalized recommendations during a meeting on December 1, 1998.

Recommendations

The Scholarship Committee recommended that fifty (50) $500 Scholarships and fifty (50) $100 Honorable Mentions be awarded from the Board of Directors and Executive Council of the National Order of Omega for 1998.

On Saturday, December 5, 1998 members of the Executive Council, including Board of Directors and Province Advisors attending the annual AFA/NIC Conference in Dallas, Texas approved fifty (50) $500 scholarships and fifty (50) $100 honorable mentions.

With final approval from members of the Board of Directors, Executive Council, and Province Advisors of the National Order of Omega on Saturday, December 5, 1998 notifications will be mailed to the $500 Scholarship Recipients and $100 Honorable Mention Recipients the week of December 14-18, 1998. The $500/$100 checks and certificates (see below) will be mailed to the Greek Advisor/Order of Omega Advisor the week of January 11-15, 1999.
