2001 FELLOWSHIP COMMITTEE REPORT
National Order of Omega
December 1, 2001 

  History of Fellowship Program 

In December 1987, the Board of Directors of the National Order of Omega established the Fellowship program for Greek Advisors at the Master’s and Doctoral levels in the amounts of $500 and $1,000 to be presented in the spring 1988. The Fellowship selection was rescheduled by the Board of Directors in July 1988 for December 1988 in order to facilitate the presentation in conjunction with the annual meetings of the Association of Fraternity Advisors (AFA) and National Interfraternity Conference (NIC). The Board of Directors established a Graduate Assistant fellowship program in the amount of $500 and amended the Master’s Fellowship to $750 in July 1993. 

Since 1988 the Board of Directors, Executive Council, and Province Advisors have awarded ninety-seven (97) fellowships: twenty-eight (28) doctoral, seventeen (17) master’s, and fifty-two (52) graduate assistant totally $65,250. 

On December 1, 2001, the Executive Council along with members of the Board of Directors and Province Directors attending the annual meeting of the Association of Fraternity Advisors (AFA) and National Interfraternity Conference (NIC) recognized fourteen (14) fellowship recipients at the Graduate Assistant, Master’s, and Doctoral levels in the amounts of $500, $750 and $1,000 respectively at our annual Recognition Reception (Chesapeake Grill, Hyatt Regency Crystal City) in Washington, D.C. 

Announcement and Application Guidelines 

Email and postcard announcements for the Fellowship awards were mailed in September 2001 and reminder email and postcard announcements in October 2001 (with instructors to visit the National Order of Omega website www.orderofomega.org) to Greek Advisors and Graduate Assistants via the Association of Fraternity Advisors mailing directory and to active and inactive chapters of the National Order of Omega via the National Order of Omega mailing directory.  

A total of twenty (20) fellowship applications were received on or before the November 2, 2001 deadline.

The twenty (20) Fellowship applicants for 2001 received on or before the postmarked deadline of November 2, 2001 included: four (4) Doctoral, two (2) Master’s, and fourteen (14) Graduate Assistant as follows:

Fellowship Selection 

The Executive Council of the National Order of Omega via a conference call on Wednesday, November 21, 2001 (4:00 p.m. CST) reviewed the fellowship recipients, including cover letters, resumes, recommendations from graduate advisors/supervisors, and graduate transcripts. 

The Executive Council selected the following fourteen (14) Fellowship Recipients formally recognized at the annual Recognition Reception sponsored by the National Order of Omega on Saturday, December 1, 2001 in conjunction with the annual meetings of the Association of Fraternity Advisors (AFA) and National Interfraternity Conference (NIC) in Washington, DC.
