FELLOWSHIP COMMITTEE REPORT

National Order of Omega

December 5, 1998

History

In December 1987, the Board of Directors of the National Order of Omega established the Fellowship program for Greek Advisors initially presented in the spring 1988. The Fellowship selection was rescheduled for the fall 1988 in order to facilitate the presentation in conjunction with the annual meetings of the Association of Fraternity Advisors (AFA) and National Interfraternity Conference (NIC). In July 1988, the Board of Directors of the National Order of Omega approved the awarding of fellowships for Greek Advisors at the Master’s and Doctoral levels in the amounts of $500 and $1,000 respectively. In July 1993, the Board of Directors of the National Order of Omega established a Graduate Assistant fellowship program in the amount of $500 and amended the Master’s Fellowship to $750.

Over the past decade, from 1988 through 1998 the Board of Directors and Executive Council of the National Order of Omega have awarded sixty-seven (67) fellowships: twenty-two (22) doctoral, thirteen (13) master’s, and twenty-one (27) graduate assistant totally $43,750.

On December 5, 1998, the Executive Council recognized twelve (12) fellowship recipients at the Graduate Assistant, Master’s, and Doctoral levels in the amounts of $500, $750 and $1,000 respectively at the Recognition Reception in conjunction with the annual meetings of the Association of Fraternity Advisors (AFA) and National Interfraternity Conference (NIC) in Dallas, Texas.

Application Procedure

Applications for the fellowship awards were mailed in late August 1998 to Greek Advisors via the Association of Fraternity Advisors mailing directory as of mid-August 1998 (including regular renewed members and graduate renewed members) and were mailed to Order of Omega Chapters Advisors via the National Order of Omega mailing as of mid-August 1998 (including active chapters and inactive chapters). A total of twenty-five (25) fellowship applications were received on or before the October 16, 1998 deadline: ten (10) Doctoral, one (1) Master’s, and fourteen (14) Graduate Assistant.

Selection Procedures

The Executive Council of the National Order of Omega via conference call on Wednesday, November 11, 1998 (6:00 p.m. CST) reviewed/selected the fellowship recipients. Applications, recommendations from graduate advisors/supervisors, and academic transcripts received were reviewed for each fellowship applicant.

The Executive Council of the National Order of Omega selected the following Fellowship Recipients to be formally recognized at the Recognition Reception sponsored by the National Order of Omega on Saturday, December 5, 1998 in conjunction with the annual meetings of the Association of Fraternity Advisors (AFA) and National Interfraternity Conference (NIC).
