Student Scholarship Michael Shonrock provided the following report from the Order of Omega Scholarship Committee: Announcement and Application Guidelines Announcement and applications guidelines for the scholarship awards were mailed in mid-August 1999 to 757 Greek Advisors and Graduate Assistants via the Association of Fraternity Advisors mailing directory and were mailed to 332 active and 93 inactive (total 425) chapters of the National Order of Omega Chapters via the National Order of Omega mailing directory. Postcard reminders were mailed in mid-September 1999 to the AFA and National Order of Omega mailing directories (1,182). Additionally, the scholarship award announcement and application guidelines were available on the new National Order of Omega website (www.orderofomega.org). During the summer Board of Directors meeting in July 1999 the scholarship program was expanded and renamed as follows: ten (10) $750 Parker F. Enright Scholarships, forty (40) $500 Patrick W. Halloran Scholarships, and up to seventy-five (75) Dr. Kent L. Gardner Scholarships.A total of one-hundred-fifteen (115) scholarship applications (109 Order of Omega chapters) were received by the October 29, 1999 postmarked deadline and reviewed by the 1999 Scholarship Committee. (Total 631) Committee and Selection Process The Scholarship Committee was composed of student affairs staff and a graduate student in the higher education program (student affairs area of study) at Texas Tech University including:Ethan Logan Assistant, Dean of Students (Greek Life) Cheryl Shubert, Associate Director of University Center/Campus Activities & Programs Tom Shubert, Director of University Center Elizabeth Wade, Graduate Assistant (Greek Life) The Scholarship Committee reviewed the Scholarship application guidelines during a breakfast meeting on September 29, 1999; reviewed 115 applications from November 11, 1999 through November 29, 1999 (representing 109 chapters and 6 duplicate applications); and finalized recommendations during a committee meeting on December 1, 1999.Scholarship Recommendations and Awards The Scholarship Committee recommended and approved ten (10) $750 Scholarships, forty (40) $500 Scholarships, and fifty-nine (59) $100 Scholarships be awarded from the National Order of Omega for 1999.On Saturday, December 4, 1998 members of the Executive Council, including Board of Directors and Province Advisors attending the annual AFA/NIC Conference in Denver, Colorado reviewed the one-hundred-nine (109) Scholarship recipients.1999

Daisy M. Wood, Board of Directors Michael had kudos for Emily Hoad at the national office for her assistance with the scholarship process. He also reported that more spend on postage without any increase in the number of applications. Next year, this amount will be reduced.During the summer board meeting, the board will look at ways to reduce the time the Order of Omega vice president spends on the Scholarship and Fellowship programs. It might involve shifting some of the responsibilities to the national office and/or board members.III. Fellowship Report Michael Shonrock provided the following report from the 1999 Fellowship Committee: History of Fellowship Program In December 1987, the Board of Directors of the National Order of Omega established the Fellowship program for Greek Advisors initially presented in the spring 1988. The Fellowship selection was rescheduled for the fall 1988 in order to facilitate the presentation in conjunction with the annual meetings of the Association of Fraternity Advisors (AFA) and National Interfraternity Conference (NIC). In July 1988, the Board of Directors approved in July 1988 the awarding of fellowships for Greek Advisors at the Master's and Doctoral levels in the amounts of $500 and $1,000 respectively. The Board of Directors established in July 1993 a Graduate Assistant fellowship program in the amount of $500 and amended the Master's Fellowship to $750.Since 1988 the Board of Directors, Executive Council, and Province Advisors have awarded seventy-four (74) fellowships: twenty-four (24) doctoral, fourteen (14) master's, and thirty-six (36) graduate assistant totally $51,000.On December 4, 1999, the Executive Council along with Board of Directors and Province Advisors attending the annual meeting of the Association of Fraternity Advisors (AFA) and National Interfraternity Conference (NIC) recognized twelve (12) fellowship recipients at the Graduate Assistant, Master's, and Doctoral levels in the amounts of $500, $750 and $1,000 respectively at the Recognition Reception (Adam's Mark Hotel) in Denver, Colorado.Announcement and Application Guidelines Announcements and application guidelines for the fellowship awards were mailed in mid-August 1999 to 757 Greek Advisors and Graduate Assistants via the Association of Fraternity Advisors mailing directory and were mailed to 332 active and 93 inactive chapters of the National Order of Omega via the National Order of Omega mailing directory.
